SULTAN AHMED

By order of Sultan Ahmed I., architect “Mehmet Aga” has started building the first “Six Minaret” mosque of the Ottoman Empire in 1609 then construction has been completed in 1616. Ahmed I. has left a heritage of very precious complex and gorgeous Sultan Ahmed Mosque to Istanbul.

 

The mosque has been called “Blue Mosque” by Europeans due to the fact of blue and white colored Iznik tiles and hand made artwork on each dome mostly decorated with blue color.

 

UNESCO has admitted dome and ceiling handwork of Sultan Ahmed Mosque to the World Heritage List in 1985 under the name of ” Istanbul Historical Region”.

 

Sultan Ahmed was designed by inspiration of the ornament and patterns belong to center dome of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque.

 

Using a glaze technique on colored handmade glassware decorated with 24 carat gold, presented with the workmanship and mastery of Decorium.
